Dr. Carter

Dr. Benjamin J. Carter is a Top 10% graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Since moving to South Florida from New York City when he was in elementary school, Dr. Carter has always had a love and fascination with animals and pets. Locally, Dr. Carter attended Pine Crest, Omni Middle School, and Spanish River High School before pursuing his bachelor of science degree in Animal Biology at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

After successful completion of both his BS and DVM degrees at UF (Go Gators!), Dr. Carter moved back home and founded Signature Veterinary Care, a concierge veterinary practice. As Signature began to grow, Dr. Carter knew that he had to take root and open a state of the art veterinary center in order to provide his patients and clients with unrivaled gold standard veterinary care and service.

In the fall of 2017, Dr. Carter and his staff welcomed all of his concierge and the local areas pet patients to Animal House Veterinary Center in east Delray Beach, Florida. Although the hospital’s size is not immense, Animal House offers patients three spacious examination rooms, a treatment center, completely glassed-in surgical suite with two anesthesia machines, digital radiology and x-ray, dentistry with digital dental x-ray, in-house full Idexx laboratory suite, a fully stocked pharmacy, and the ability to perform ultrasounds, endoscopy, and CT scans. Since opening, the practice has grown, but Dr. Carter has continued to provide his patients and clients with one-on-one, individual patient based care and pet parent education. It is this key focus- making each medical choice for the individual patient and taking the time to explain to each client what is being done and why- that Dr. Carter prides himself on most as a successful veterinarian and boutique veterinary practice owner.

Outside of the office, Dr. Carter spends his time training for and competing in long-distance running races, having completed seven marathons, including three Boston Marathons. Dr. Carter is also an avid tennis player, skier, and spends many late nights in the gym. Dr. Carter shares his home with his four rescue dogs, Monkey, Grover, Fizz, and Babs. Dr. Carter is passionate about pet rescue and works with multiple local and national rescue organizations. In addition, Dr. Carter is a consultant for national veterinary and pet product corporations and has been featured in a variety of print and online pet-related articles.

Dr. Carter’s passion and love for treating well and sick pets have transcended nearly 17 years since he first began working in veterinary hospitals as a high school student. His goal is to remove the ambiguity that surrounds veterinary care and deliver what pet parents are looking for- compassionate, competent care in a welcoming environment at a manageable price.

Beverly

Beverly is Animal House’s front desk manager and all-around “Office Mom.” Before joining Animal House, Beverly was an elementary school teacher for the Palm Beach County School District. Her love and devotion to dogs, cats, and well, nearly every animal, is evident in her volunteer work with many local animal rescues and donations to national and international animal refuges and sanctuaries.

Beverly’s love of animals began at a young age but was further enhanced during her time at Arizona State University when she completed courses in animal husbandry. After moving back to the east coast, Beverly earned her master’s in early childhood education and successfully raised three of her own two-legged children while helping to positively shape the minds of her elementary school students.

To that point, Beverly’s main goals at Animal House include helping to educate pet parents on their pets’ general care and well being. She also strives to get every sick or injured patient in to see Dr. Carter on the same day, no questions asked, all while keeping the hospital running on schedule.

In her time away from being Office Mom, Beverly enjoys running, travel out west to our nation’s beautiful national parks, and spending time with her wonderful rescue pups.

JoAnne

JoAnne’s journey to being included in the Animal House Team is a fun one. JoAnne was one of Dr. Carter’s first concierge clients. Having come from a background in being a fundamental player in launching national pet insurance as we know it, JoAnne was looking to get back into helping pets and helping pet owners provide their pets with the best care possible. As Animal House grew, and Office Mom needed a little bit of a breather, JoAnne was ready to step in and help increase the efficiency and hospitality of Animal House’s front desk. We challenge you to ask JoAnne any question related to pet insurance- if she can’t answer it, rest easy knowing that JoAnne will find the answer!

In addition to helping out at the hospital, JoAnne spends her time caring for her four rescues dogs, Carly, Bella, Lily, and Henri. She is passionate about animal rescue and is still active with Pet Rescue Group in White Plains, NY.

Dara

Dara’s tenure dates back to the founding of Signature Veterinary Care with Dr. Carter in the early days in 2013. Dara was an integral part of the transition from concierge to in-hospital care of patients nearly three years ago. Before working with Dr. Carter, Dara provided local pets and pet parents with veterinary technician care for twelve years at other area hospitals and in-home pet sitting.

In her free time, you can find Dara traveling all around the United States with her feline friend, Jasper! They’ve been on boats, planes, and trains together so far. Next up- cat backpack carrier adventures!

Maria

Maria del Camino joined Dr. Carter back in 2014 as one of his original veterinary technicians. Before working with Dr. Carter, Maria was a certified groomer for ten years and specialized in show cuts. Maria believed that she could increase the comfort of the dogs and cats that she groomed, and therefore began training and completed her certification as a licensed pet masseuse.

Maria is fluent in four different languages and is currently working on a fifth! In addition to chatting with pet parents and providing reassuring care to our patients, Maria does her best to keep Dr. Carter on his toes with her spicy sense of humor.

Kelsey

Kelsey has been part of the Animal House veterinary technician team for two years. Prior to that, Kelsey worked for three years as a veterinary assistant and technician while pursuing her degree at Palm Beach State College. Kelsey enjoys all aspects of veterinary care, including dentistry, wound care, phlebotomy, orthopedics, and believe it or not, record keeping!

At home, Kelsey is mom to three dogs, six cats, 18 goldfish, one rabbit, and an occasional foster goat or chicken!

Amanda

Amanda is Animal House’s dual-threat- on any given day, you can find her working at the front desk or assisting as a technician in the treatment areas of the hospital. Amanda joined our team in the spring of 2019, having worked for six years previously at other local veterinary hospitals.

Amanda enjoys spending time with her rescue Dachshund, Sherlock while rooting for her favorite college team, the University of Michigan.
